What Makes Himêya Earth-Friendly

What Makes Himêya Earth-Friendly

Typically assigned a different area of focus each year, 2021’s Earth Day theme is “Restore Our Earth”. Most years, events range from neighbourhood cleanups to removals of invasive plants, but with social distancing still in place for many of us this April, events have gone digital. It’s a good year to think about what you can do at home, on an individual level, and how you’d like to support earth-friendly brands and initiatives.

Below, our Earth Day tribute, with five features that articulate how our product cares for you and Earth, our home:

01. Farm to Home

Our revolutionary Track & Trace technology ensures that the authenticity of our sourced cotton is monitored and tested at every stage, assuring only the highest-quality fibres reach our mills. Our integrated cotton DNA authentication platform incorporates a physical molecular tracer.

Together these technologies preserve the integrity of the cotton fibre at its precise point of origin – tracking the date, time, place as well as the social and environmental practices used to produce our cotton.

02. Zero Waste

Over the last three decades, the Himatsingka Group has been focused on cementing a vertically integrated model from fibre to shelf. Leveraging automation, a responsible shop floor culture and virtual platforms has had a transformational impact on productivity. Our Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) ETP plant, for example, ensures recycling of 99.1% of the water used in our manufacturing.

03. Organic Certified

A part of our Bedding collection is also Made in Green, GOTS certified Organic. Organic fibres are natural fibres grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, insecticides, or herbicides and GMOs (Genetic Modified Organisms) according to the principles of organic agriculture. Organic agriculture is a production process that sustains the health of ecosystems, soils and people. Read more about habitat conservation at our partner farms.

Our Bath Collection too is made from the purest pima cotton grown at our partner farms and organic cotton, manufactured in our state-of-the-art mills in India. Our manufacturing technologies and infrastructure support saving of water through new yarn dyeing technologies and processes that help reduce waste overall.

04. Natural & Wellbeing Focused

Product innovation is a continuous and active dialogue within our teams. Some special introductions this year include:

OUR SUSTAINABLE SEMUL PILLOW  Grown in warmer climates and indigenous to India, Semul cotton has been a natural fill for pillows and mattresses for centuries. 100% organic and sustainable, with the Himêya Semul Pillow, we return time and again to Mother Nature for all she provides. Non-toxic, chemical free, hypoallergenic and antimicrobial resistant, Semul cotton has incredible health benefits and repels moisture, protecting against mold, mildew and allergens.

RESCUE HAND TOWELS The first of its kind, Himêya’s Rescue Towels are made with yarns from production waste. An accidental discovery, they are a by-product of waste yarns that do not conform to a designed size, weight or pattern. Yet when woven together, they become blessed with an inherent design element and vibrancy that makes them our Founder’s favourite. We donate 20% of our Rescue Towel proceeds to the International Rescue Committee (IRC): an organisation dedicated to supporting those whose livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster, to survive, recover and regain control of their future.

05. Eco Finish & Packaging

We do not artificially soften our fabrics with silicon, formaldehyde or toxic chemicals. At Himêya, you’re experiencing the fabric in its purest and most natural form, finished with natural plant extracts. Our fabrics will continue to soften with each wash.

Our products arrive at your doorstep packaged in a reusable cloth bag made with 100% natural-neutral cotton and inserts made from 100% recycled FSC certified paper. While all our bags are meant for keeps, our warm and soft flannel blankets arrive in a self-bag made with their own fabric which is ideal for storage or to repurpose. ⁣
